Hi my name is Denise Hardy and I love everything in connection with the home i.e. Interior Design, Hand Painting Furniture, Decorative Painting Techniques and Art.

I live in Alicante, Spain with my husband in a beautiful villa which we both love and work hard on making it our home.  I have been established in creating beautiful homes since 1998 and never get tired of doing what I do.

Room Divider Makeover

A Room Divider - you have heard of these, but perhaps you have never considered them to be an alternative when it comes to using them outside?

We live in a villa in Spain and have a swimming pool and an outside shower, but we don't want to look at the shower all the time when we are chilling.  So, I was wondering what we could use to hide it as and when we want.  I then came up with the idea of using a Room Divider, but didn't want to pay a fortune for it.  In Spain we have lots of Chinese shops and everything they sell is quite cheap.  I went to have a look for one and they had one with a nice print on it for 49.99 euros.  But..... unfortunately we had a lot of rain one day and we forgot to bring it inside and it didn't have a protection coat on it, i.e. varnish.

Anyway, needless to say, it got damaged in the fact that the rain washed away all of the print!.  So.... I decided to re-paint it in Rustoleum Winter Grey.  I also purchased a Damask Stencil from the Stencil Library in the UK and put that on the Divider and then used 4 coats of Polyvine Decorators Varnish in Satin Finish. So... hopefully if it rains and we forget to bring it in it will not get damaged and wash the pattern away.

I have lots of Lanterns around the pool, but I don't always use them to put candles in, as living in Spain with the heat tends to melt them.  Therefore, sometimes I 'dress' them up.  This one has a vase with some silk flowers and I placed a string of silk roses with battery lights in the bottom, which I light up at night.  They look very pretty when lit.  Just another idea.
