Hi my name is Denise Hardy and I love everything in connection with the home i.e. Interior Design, Hand Painting Furniture, Decorative Painting Techniques and Art.

I live in Alicante, Spain with my husband in a beautiful villa which we both love and work hard on making it our home.  I have been established in creating beautiful homes since 1998 and never get tired of doing what I do.

Pink and Gold Small Chest of Drawers

I have had this small chest of drawers for quite a few years.  It started off being pine and I initially painted it in my 'French Antique Style'

See here for how to do this

Over the past few years I have also started to use some different techniques in my painting of furniture and thought it was about time to 'change out' the style' and give it a little more TLC and some updating.

First of all I gave it a good clean and sanded it down to get rid of the wax that I had previously used on it.  I used 2 coats of my usual Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 primer/sealer.  For me, this is the best on the market and sticks to anything and you get no 'bleed through'.

I then gave this a slight rub down with a sanding block before carrying on.

I decided to use a Satinado. I have used this paint before and it gives your furniture a really nice soft looking and hard wearing finish.  I used Luxens in Rosa shock No2 - this is a bit like a 'baby pink' and used two coats.

I always like to add some depth to a piece of furniture.  I don't like to use clear wax, hence I make my own glazes and use different coloured waxes.  I used Liberon Wax and purchased it in gold.  I decided to just use this wax on the top and the front of the base and the knobs because I had a different idea for the sides.

I purchased a 'Bee' stencil and placed this on both sides of the chest and love how this turned out - making the chest a little different from the 'norm'
